Do you ever feel as though your life is one big merry-go-round going round and round and round? You desperately want to get off, but everything is spinning so quickly, you can't figure out how! I have been there...I actually tend to get there quite often, unfortunately. It's such an easy thing to do. However, trying to balance everything on a merry-go-round just doesn't work. We cannot be the joyful, life-giving, inspiring moms that we want to be and are called to be when our lives have turned into this crazy ride! I was thinking on this as I was cleaning my house on Saturday, and God reminded me of some of the notes that I had jotted down from Jeanna Young during the Mom Heart Conference in January. I thought I would share them with you today in an effort to help you jump off that merry-go-round safely and to find that joy in motherhood that may have disappeared.
When the merry-go-round begins because of circumstances out of our control such as cancer, a difficult pregnancy, a bad relationship, we need to make sure we get in harmony with God's plan. We need to spend as much time as possible praying and reading God's Word. We need to fill our lives with the things of God such as creation, music, art, beauty - things that will continue to remind us that our God is a God of order and beauty and love and that He is in control of our out of control circumstances. This would also be a wonderful time to find a mentor - someone who can provide spiritual wisdom and encouragement for you during this time. Someone who can pray when you feel as though you can't. When faced with circumstances we have no control over, we need to run to our loving Savior and seek His plan for the trial He has chosen for us.
Now, what about when the merry-go-round begins because we have created it ourselves through overcommitment, misunderstandings, or just an undisciplined life? Believe me, I know all about this merry-go-round, and despite my best intentions, I usually find myself on it once more! It is hard to avoid, but one thing Jeanna pointed out was that we need to pray for wisdom and to allow God to search our hearts. Are we trying to do too much because of our pride. Are we being lazy? Ask God to help you establish His priorities in your life. Get back to the basics. Make a routine. Have a daily quiet time. Exercise. Plan your meals in advance. Begin the day being disciplined with your routine. You may also need to ask your husband or a close friend to help you analyze your priorities and to show you what might not be necessary for you tackle in this season of your life. We are called as Christians to be Christ like...to be like Jesus, and as Jeanna reminded us Jesus never ran anywhere, and Jesus never made everybody happy!
So...as you begin your week, if you are finding yourself on the merry-go-round wishing you could get off but can't find the way to, I hope these reminders will encourage you. For those of you who aren't there right now, be thankful...and keep this close by because you will probably find yourself in need of these reminders soon! As Jeanne closed her talk she reminded us, "Make space to hear God, to do what God wants, to create the life of beauty God made you to have." I wish you a wonderful week in which you are able to make space to hear God. He has much to tell you about!
Wishing you a day full of blessings,
Christy
